Clare Valley Half Marathon Statement – 19th April 2018
WATCH OUT CLARE VALLEY, RUNNERS ARE COMING EN MASSE
With only minutes to spare, registrations were still coming in for the Clare Valley Half Marathon bringing the total number to 1028 participants; an increase of 45% from last year and the largest run of its kind in the Clare Valley.
Sunday in Clare will be filled with runners and walkers from all over Australia, with a few internationals coming to the region from Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the UK. With record numbers in the Half Marathon, 10km, 5km and the kids fun run, this is an exceptional start of the Triple Crown Series for 2018, which consists of events in the Clare Valley, metropolitan Adelaide, and McLaren Vale regions.
General Manager, Cassandra Liebeknecht said, “We are absolutely thrilled with the numbers for this event on the 2018 SARRC calendar. The Clare Valley course is a beautiful run, taking participants along the Riesling Trail. The weather is going to be perfect, and once participants have finished we have food and drinks available in the race village for runners, friends, family, and locals to enjoy the atmosphere.”
“This year we would also like to acknowledge the support from the Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council for helping us with funding to ensure our Kids Fun Run can grow and each child will receive their very own finishers’ medal,” Ms. Liebeknecht said.
SARRC Chairperson Voula Nisyrios said, “Thank you must also go to the Clare Valley Event committee and local community members, including the Riesling Trail Committee, the local Football Clubs, the local Police and the Council for continuing to support and help SARRC grow this event.”
The funky new marketing styles the SARRC team have been working on, together with creating a more inclusive event that welcomes runners and walkers of all abilities, has contributed to the huge growth in this event.
“It is heart-warming to see the organic growth of this event, and that more people are enjoying and living healthy, active lives. Our social media for this event has also grown organically with runners and friends sharing the event which has contributed to this amazing result. The new medal designs for the 2018 Triple Crown Series have also contributed to the growth, with medals for all distances, and once participants complete the series, the three medals magnetise together to form a beautiful “super” medal” said Ms. Liebeknecht.
The next event on the SARRC 2018 Calendar is the Adelaide Marathon Festival (25th-27th May). 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the Adelaide Marathon. The inclusiveness of the Clare Valley event carries over into the Adelaide Marathon Festival with events from the Family Fun Run right through to the Marathon.
